A change is in store.

Eleanor in Australia wrote this post the other day about the uncomfortable quality of bluejeans for her specific body type. This got me thinking and I found that I am the exact opposite -- I find jeans amazingly comfortable. Further, they are my comfort. They are my default go-to clothing item when I'm not sure what to wear to casual events. I am confident in them. I figure if they make me under-dressed then oh well -- at least I'll be comfortably, confidently under-dressed.

Further though revealed that jeans are my crutch. They are my clothing rut. They are the fashion uh-oh that I've been stuck in for years. I am going to remedy this...

I've decided that for the summer, I'm going to try to ditch the denim!

No denim jeans on chilly evenings (yes, we have chilly evenings in the summer - this IS Michigan), no denim shorts or jackets. I'm even going to stow away my most comfortable bum-around-in shirt that is only denim colored (it's the softest cotton shirt ever).

I'm giving myself the weekend to pack all the denim I can find in my house into boxes for summer storage. My denimless state will begin on Monday, May 25.

Eleanor has discovered that jeans are not her style. I'm hoping that by the end of the summer they won't be my style, either.

Oh Tuli you are so funny! And I just realised that my denim jacket is actually MY default jacket...and it's probably almost 10 years old. Hmmm....I shall join you dear Tuli in this quest for sartorial change. If I was the catalyst then you shall be the leader of the movement, and I shall follow you proudly into unchartered territory.

Perhaps we can do twin postings every now and then of our clothes??!!

I guess those Venturas would be out of the running anyway then!

I used to wear denim a lot, but not often anymore - not even jeans. I think that jeans were my crutch when I had to dress up everyday for work. Now that I work at home I just wear sweats or men's shorts all the time. For me jeans are now just something to wear if I want to be casual, but not sweats casual. I don't wear them at home at all. I don't even have any really worn, soft, comfortable jeans.

The only denim I'll be wearing this summer is 1 pair of shorts, and I don't wear them often. I won't be wearing jeans (or anything longer than capris til about fall), I don't have a denim jacket, and 2 of my denim shirts are long sleeve so I won't be wearing those. Though I do have a cute pair of denim shoes that I appliqued a smiley sunflower on.

Good luck with your new style!

Dude! I did this last summer, kind of, but I fell right back into the jeans rut when the weather got chilly again. AND I am wearing jeans RIGHT NOW and it's like 88 degrees here, OMG!

My next sewing project is a pair of wide-legged cropped pants in green linen, though. Maybe I can get back on the wagon.

I did this two autumns ago so I'd wear more of my fall skirts (and other pants). A tip - figure out what you'll wear the next day before you go to bed. Took me a lot of staring into the closet to figure that out. It's also a good way to avoid wearing them all the time even when they aren't boxed up. I guess my brain doesn't do fashion in the early morning.

You know, I do jeans around the house (or shorts, or khakis) when it's just me and the kids and I'm not going anywhere.

But when I'm out? I make sure to wear a dress or skirt. I try to dress up.

I can't give up my jeans, though! You are brave. :)

Brave woman. Will you be wearing wool pants for those July nights that get down to 50? ;-)
